Bank strike deferred late Sunday night; banks open normally today
The three-day nationwide bank strike called for September 28–30 was deferred late on Sunday night after a 9:30 pm meeting between the Indian Banks' Association and the United Forum of Bank Unions, ANI reported.
A joint high-level committee will now examine the unions' key demand — a five-day banking week with all Saturdays as holidays — alongside talks on revising the performance-linked incentive scheme for senior officers; other residual issues from the March 2024 minutes will also be taken up.
Bank branches across the country, including those in Hyderabad that had opened specially on Sunday, will function normally on Monday; the strike would have clashed with the September 30 half-yearly closing. The deferral is not a final approval of the five-day-week demand.
