Crude at $106: what the oil surge means for your fuel bill

Brent crude has surged back to around $106 a barrel after dipping near $98 earlier in the week, as renewed uncertainty over the US-Iran diplomatic process rattled energy markets. For India, which imports the bulk of its oil, every $10 rise in crude widens the import bill and stokes inflation.
The immediate pressure point is the rupee, which fell to a one-week low of 95.96 on Thursday. A weaker currency makes dollar-denominated crude costlier in rupee terms — a double blow for oil marketing companies and, eventually, for pump prices.
What should you watch? OMCs revise retail fuel prices based on a rolling average of international benchmarks, so sustained $100-plus crude typically shows up at the pump within weeks. Keeping tanks reasonably full and tracking weekly price revisions is the practical move for now.
