Hyderabad Police have detained a man who allegedly struck the idol of Goddess Santoshi with sticks inside the Santoshi Mata Temple near the Dilsukhnagar Bus Depot on Friday. A case has been registered and the investigation is underway, with the BJP demanding strict action.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Ansari, allegedly entered the temple and struck the deity's idol with sticks while a video of the incident went viral on social media. People present at the spot caught him and handed him over to the police.

Police are examining CCTV footage from the temple and surrounding areas to establish the sequence of events and are speaking to temple staff and eyewitnesses. The man is also undergoing a medical examination and mental health assessment as investigators probe the circumstances.

Officials said the motive behind the alleged attack has not yet been established. The BJP has sought strict action in the case.
