FIIs sell for 10th straight week, but domestic buyers cushion the fall

Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers of Indian equities for a 10th consecutive week, though the pace of selling slowed, while domestic institutions bought heavily to cushion the market.
FIIs' month-to-date net selling stood at Rs 51,466 crore as of October 24, driven by rising Brent crude, geopolitical tensions and uncertainty ahead of key central-bank decisions, according to market data.
Domestic institutional investors, by contrast, bought Rs 10,942 crore during the week and Rs 59,110 crore month-to-date, more than offsetting FII sales and limiting the benchmarks' weekly fall to about 2.4%.
Brokerage Bernstein has meanwhile cut its Nifty 50 target for December 2026 to 25,000 from 26,000, warning that a cut in long-term capital gains tax alone would not be enough to bring back sustained foreign inflows.
