India head coach Gautam Gambhir paid a heartfelt tribute to outgoing chief selector Ajit Agarkar, whose term ended October 4, praising his ‘team-first’ philosophy and noting India's three ICC trophy triumphs as proof of his conviction.

The BCCI has meanwhile mandated that Centre of Excellence head VVS Laxman attend all senior selection committee meetings to improve communication on player fitness and availability, while Pragyan Ojha serves as interim chief.

Paralympic champions Pramod Bhagat and Bhavina Patel were also named India's joint flag-bearers for the 2026 Para Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.

The changes come at a busy moment for Indian cricket, with the T20 World Cup cycle and a packed home season demanding a settled selection structure.
