India, Canada begin fifth round of CEPA trade talks today

Negotiators from India and Canada sit down in the fifth round of Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement talks on Oct 5, with Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal calling the next 90 days ‘defining’ for the relationship.
The fourth round concluded in Mumbai on Sept 18 between Goyal and Canada's International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu, and both sides have agreed to fast-track negotiations toward concluding a deal by the end of 2026. The fifth round opens on Monday.
Two-way trade reached USD 30.4 billion in 2025, with a target of doubling it to USD 70 billion by 2030. India's top exports to Canada include pharmaceuticals, iron and steel, seafood and garments; key imports are pulses, fertilisers, coal and crude petroleum.
Goyal also said the India-EU trade pact is expected to come into force in the coming months, signalling a busy quarter for New Delhi's trade diplomacy.
