India open their T20I series against the West Indies in Lucknow on Tuesday, with fringe contenders treating the games as an audition ahead of next year's T20 World Cup.

The series arrives on the back of India's Asian Games gold defence, and the selectors have packed the squad with players who can still force their way into the World Cup frame. Every outing in Lucknow and beyond will be graded.

West Indies, meanwhile, have shown they can spoil a party — their record 352-run ODI chase against India earlier in the tour proved this side hits hard and fears nobody.

For Indian fans, the opening game is a first live look at which combinations the think-tank trusts when the real tournament pressure eventually comes.
