IndiGo flight 6E 6115, bound from Delhi to Chennai, was diverted to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on Sunday, October 11, after a power bank stored in an overhead luggage compartment caught fire mid-flight. The cabin crew responded swiftly and brought the blaze under control before landing.

The aircraft landed safely with all roughly 180 passengers and seven crew members unharmed. The airline arranged an alternate aircraft so passengers could continue their journey to Chennai with minimal delay.

A video filmed by a passenger showing travellers smothering the flames has spread widely on social media, reigniting debate about the risks of carrying high-capacity lithium batteries in cabin baggage.
