Iyer's 42-ball century powers India to 8-wicket T20I win over West Indies

Captain Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 102 off 43 balls as India chased 172 to beat the West Indies by eight wickets in the first T20I of the five-match series in Lucknow, taking a 1-0 lead with 32 balls to spare.
West Indies were put in to bat and slipped to 44 for 3 in the powerplay, but Shai Hope (52) and Sherfane Rutherford (56) rebuilt before debutant Naman Dhir's 3 for 31 — the third three-wicket haul on T20I debut by an Indian spinner — triggered a collapse to 171 all out.
India wobbled at 35 for 2, then Iyer and Ishan Kishan (37*) added an unbroken 137 off 67 balls. Iyer reached fifty in 28 balls and the second fifty in just 14, finishing with 10 fours and six sixes — the joint-third-fastest T20I hundred by a full-member captain.
The series moves to Ranchi for the second T20I at a venue that has never seen 200 breached in a T20I — though former keeper Dinesh Karthik worries the one-sided nature of these contests 'is not a good sign' for the long run.
