Jantar Mantar de-notified as protest site; Delhi HC hears plea as opposition fury grows

Delhi Police have de-notified Jantar Mantar as a legal protest site, designating three alternative locations, even as the opposition's ‘vote chori’ agitation over electoral-roll revisions intensifies.
The move triggered sharp reactions: the Citizens for Justice and Peace called it an assault on people's right to protest, and the Delhi High Court was set to hear a plea on the de-notification on Tuesday.
Opposition leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Abhijeet Dipke, accused the Modi government of waging war against citizens to protect Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whose resignation the INDIA bloc has demanded.
The confrontation follows detentions of opposition leaders and a Rajya Sabha MP's Supreme Court plea alleging illegal detention, keeping the electoral-roll revision row at the centre of national politics.
