The United States and 16 other nations have endorsed a non-binding plan — the Kyoto Vision — to harness AI across scientific research, seen as a major shift in global science policy.

The endorsement marks a significant step in AI-driven discovery, with signatories agreeing that artificial intelligence should sit at the heart of how science gets done.

Implementation details are still being worked out — the plan is non-binding, so its force will depend on what national agencies actually fund and adopt.

Still, the breadth of the sign-on suggests the direction of travel is settled: from drug discovery to climate modelling, AI is becoming research infrastructure.
