Russia and Germany hold first foreign-minister talks since 2022
Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and Germany's Johann Wadephul met on Saturday on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York — the first such meeting since before Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Wadephul urged Russia to reach a Black Sea grain-export agreement, citing food shortages in the Global South; the two also discussed the Ukraine war and bilateral ties.
Relations have been frozen since 2022 and worsened further after Germany blamed Russia for a drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport in August, closing a consulate and a cultural centre in Berlin.
