NSE makes a subdued debut, lists at 0.8% premium

The newly listed National Stock Exchange made a relatively subdued market debut on Thursday, opening at a premium of around 0.8 per cent over its issue price on the BSE.
The listing — one of the most awaited in Indian market history — came on a brutal day for equities, with the Sensex crashing 1,248 points and the Nifty sinking 1.64 per cent in a broad risk-off session.
Analysts said the muted debut reflected the day's weak sentiment rather than the exchange's fundamentals, and advised investors to track the stock's price discovery over the coming sessions.
