The Nifty IT index was the standout gainer in an otherwise bruising session, climbing 695 points or 2.21 per cent to 32,211.35. Wipro led with a 3.30 per cent gain to Rs 188.15, followed by Infosys and Mphasis.

India's benchmark IT index emerged as the lone bright spot in a difficult session for domestic equities on Wednesday, climbing 2.21 per cent to 32,211.35. Nine of its ten constituents advanced, with only OFSS slipping 0.14 per cent.

Wipro led the pack with a 3.30 per cent gain to Rs 188.15 on strong quarterly earnings, followed by Infosys and Mphasis. The rally showed selective buying in technology shares even as auto, metal and banking stocks remained under pressure.

IT was the strongest sector index on the NSE for the day at +2.88 per cent by one measure, as investors leaned into earnings strength in technology. Analysts will watch whether banking and consumption results in the coming days can extend the Q2 earnings anchor beyond IT.
