Opposition to march on Election Commission today over alleged voter-roll manipulation

The INDIA alliance of opposition parties planned a march to the Election Commission's Delhi office on Tuesday after reports that the poll body pushed through large-scale voter-roll changes despite objections from two commissioners.

Rahul Gandhi said the alliance would act to ‘save democracy’ and is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, making the poll body's leadership the direct target of Tuesday's protest.

At the heart of the dispute are reports that the Commission pressed ahead with sweeping changes to electoral rolls even after two commissioners recorded their objections — a claim that, if sustained, would put the poll panel's internal divisions on public display.

The march lands the same week Telangana's own Special Intensive Revision is mired in row over bulk Form-7 deletion bids in Hyderabad, keeping the voter-list question at the top of the national agenda.
