GAIL's profit doubled and IOC reported a jump while investors watched the big names.

Trent was the market's biggest gainer among large caps, jumping over 5% after its net profit surged 23% year-on-year to Rs 464 crore in the September quarter, adding about Rs 7,950 crore to its market capitalisation.

Investors kept a close eye on Reliance and Jio Platforms, whose results could set the market's near-term direction given their weight in the indices. Results were also awaited from BEL, Dixon Technologies, Delhivery, Aditya Birla Capital and NTPC Green.

The day's losers included Coal India, Strides Pharma and Suzlon, while analysts noted the earnings season has so far been uneven, with IT and pharma surprising positively.
