Russia plans record 27% defence budget hike for 2027
Draft budget documents seen by Reuters show Russia plans to spend 17.1 trillion roubles ($202.6 billion) on defence in 2027 — about 27% more than this year's budget and a record since the Ukraine war began.
Total defence spending would hit 50 trillion roubles over 2027–2029, while welfare funding shrinks 7%, education 6% and healthcare 6.8%.
Moscow also raised its 2026 deficit estimate to 3.2% of GDP and plans 2027 tax hikes to plug the gap.
