Salman Khan's Maatrubhumi wins government nod after recut

Salman Khan's long-stalled war drama Maatrubhumi has received a no-objection certificate from the I&B Ministry, clearing its biggest hurdle. The revised cut, heavily altered from the original, now portrays India-China relations in a positive light — and a November 13 release is on the table.
The film, first announced as Battle of Galwan and later retitled Maatrubhumi, dramatises the 2020 Galwan Valley clash and had been stuck since early 2026 over official reservations about its China-linked content. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and co-starring Chitrangda Singh, it went back to the edit table, and officials are now satisfied with the new version.
According to reports, Salman is eyeing November 13 — the post-Diwali corridor — for release. The censor process is still pending: the makers will shortly submit the film to the Central Board of Film Certification, and a clearer picture on the date is expected within about ten days.
The breakthrough ends months of uncertainty. As recently as mid-September, the makers were denying reports of clearance, saying talks with officials were still on. With the ministry's nod in hand, a 2026 theatrical release finally looks within reach.
