Petitions allege irregularities in voter deletions during the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The Supreme Court is set to hear pleas challenging the deletion of voters during the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Petitioners allege irregularities in how names were removed from the rolls during the exercise.

The SIR has become a political flashpoint, with opposition leaders and protest groups, including the CJP, staging demonstrations against what they call arbitrary deletions. Leaders of those protests were detained by police earlier this week in Delhi and Mumbai.

The court's hearing will examine whether the EC's procedures followed due process. The outcome could have nationwide implications for how electoral roll revisions are conducted in future polls.
