India's gross GST collections hit ₹2.04 lakh crore in September, a 14.7 per cent jump that points to steady economic activity and heavy pre-festive inventory build-up. The strong showing reflects continued momentum in domestic consumption and imports.

September's gross Goods and Services Tax collections reached ₹2.04 lakh crore, up 14.7 per cent year-on-year, according to The Economic Times. The figure was among the highlights of the October 2 India business brief.

Economists attribute the rise to a combination of steady domestic consumption, strong import activity and businesses stocking up ahead of the festive season. The numbers reinforce the picture of resilient tax revenues through the second quarter of the fiscal year.

The September haul follows a pattern of healthy GST receipts in recent months, giving the exchequer a firm base as the government heads into the festive demand season.
