Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has urged the visitors to soak up pressure and turn it back on New Zealand from the opening T20I, saying reputation alone will not be enough on the tour. Ajinkya Rahane added that winning the two Tests will be key to India's World Test Championship final hopes.

India will need more than their reputation to beat New Zealand on their home turf, former head coach Ravi Shastri said on Wednesday, urging the visitors to absorb the pressure and put it straight back on the hosts from the first T20I on October 22. 'New Zealand will come hard at India. They know their conditions, they do their homework and they make you earn every win,' he said in a statement issued by broadcaster Sony Sports Network.

The tour runs five T20Is till November 1, followed by a five-match ODI series in the lead-up to the 2027 Men's ODI World Cup and a two-match Test series in Wellington and Christchurch from November 19 to December 1. Former Test captain Ajinkya Rahane said wins in both Tests would be crucial to India's hopes of reaching the 2027 World Test Championship final at The Oval, and welcomed the return of veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar to the squad.

Off-spin great Ravichandran Ashwin called a New Zealand tour one of the sternest tests in the game, saying it constantly tests a team's ability to adapt across formats. India A are also touring New Zealand for three red-ball games starting October 24 in Lincoln.
