AFSPA extended six months in Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal
The Home Ministry has extended the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act for six more months, from October 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, in parts of Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh after a law-and-order review, according to gazette notifications issued on September 25.
In Manipur, the whole state remains a disturbed area except 13 police-station jurisdictions in five valley districts; in Nagaland the order covers nine districts and 21 police stations in five others; in Arunachal it covers Tirap, Changlang and Longding plus three Namsai-district police stations bordering Assam.
One report links the renewal to a fresh spike in violence, including a deadly ambush near the Myanmar border on September 25 that killed four villagers; the NIA is detaining United Kuki National Army chief Thangkhomang Haokip.
