Census 2027 first phase nearly complete; 32 crore+ families recorded
Prime Minister Modi said in his Mann Ki Baat address that the first phase of Census 2027 — the house-listing operation — is almost complete across all states and union territories, with information on more than 32 crore families recorded.
He called the census a national responsibility and urged citizens to take part, including through self-enumeration on the Census online portal and mobile app.
Uttarakhand's house-listing ran from April 25 to May 24, 2026, beginning at Mana village in Chamoli, while remote and snow-bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are still continuing the exercise.
