The Union Cabinet cleared a Rs 10,000-crore scheme to make India a global container manufacturing hub.

The Union Cabinet on Friday approved the Container Manufacturing Promotion Scheme with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore to establish a globally competitive container manufacturing ecosystem in India.

The scheme, announced under the Union Budget 2026–27, is aimed at reducing India's dependence on imported shipping containers and building domestic capacity for its growing trade.

The Cabinet also approved the Khelo India Sports Goods Manufacturing Scheme with a total outlay of Rs 1,856.67 crore for FY27 to FY34, and extended the PLI scheme tenure for textiles to FY 2033-34.
