CCPA fines Amazon, Flipkart Rs 10 lakh each over unregistered herbicide

The Central Consumer Protection Authority has fined Amazon and Flipkart Rs 10 lakh each and JioMart Rs 5 lakh for selling and advertising an unregistered agro-chemical marketed as 'Cyclosinone Herbicide'.

The regulator found the product was sold without disclosing its active ingredient or composition, and that 'Cyclosinone' does not appear in the schedule of the Insecticides Act, 1968.

The platforms must halt sales, conduct self-audits and file compliance reports within 15 days; Amazon's order alone cited 38,410 orders worth Rs 96.4 lakh.
