IMD says the Bay of Bengal system should become a cyclonic storm by October 26, possibly named Cyclone Arnab, bringing heavy rain to the Andhra-Odisha coasts.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to become a depression on Saturday and a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 26, before moving towards the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts.

If it strengthens as forecast, the system would be the first cyclone of 2026 over the Bay and would be named Cyclone Arnab. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Odisha between October 27 and 29.

The Andhra Pradesh disaster management authority has advised fishermen to return to shore and asked farmers and the public to take precautions.
