The India Meteorological Department confirmed on Sunday that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclonic Storm Murasu, setting up a second landfall on the east coast in barely a week.

Murasu is expected to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm before crossing the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur on Tuesday morning, packing winds of 100-110 kmph and gusts touching 120 kmph.

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast across Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Odisha. Officials are on alert for flooding, power disruption and crop damage, with the state machinery still recovering from Cyclone Arnab's passage last week.
