Dalal Street logs 7th straight weekly decline despite Friday rebound

Indian benchmarks closed out a seventh consecutive losing week — the longest streak since 2008 — even as Friday's session brought relief: the Sensex gained 315.20 points to 73,895.74 and the Nifty rose 77.40 points to 23,140.50, led by buying in private-sector banks and autos after Thursday's worst single-day fall in six months.
For the week, the Nifty fell 0.9 per cent and the Sensex 0.5 per cent, weighed down by Brent crude near $105.50–107 a barrel, multi-year high US Treasury yields, sustained foreign-investor selling and West Asia energy-risk uncertainty; the India VIX jumped 6.9 per cent for the week.
Coal India was the week's top Nifty gainer at 4 per cent along with ITC, Eternal, Titan and Dr Reddy's, while Bharti Airtel's 5.7 per cent fall led the laggards with Trent, Infosys, Bajaj Finserv and TMPV.
