Delhi Police file 3 FIRs over protests demanding CEC's resignation

Delhi Police on Oct 3 registered three FIRs over Friday's protests by student organisations, political parties and civil society activists who tried to gather at Jantar Mantar demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation.
Two FIRs were registered at Parliament Street police station and one at Connaught Place, invoking Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for alleged disobedience of orders. No individual or organisation was named as an accused, though organisers' details were included.
The FIRs followed a day of protests across central Delhi in which police detained around 1,000 people, including AAP leaders Saurabh Bharadwaj, Atishi and Sanjay Singh, plus activists from AISA, SFI, NSUI and the Indian Youth Congress, as they tried to cross barricades.
The demonstrators allege irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and mass deletion of voters, following an Indian Express investigation that two Election Commissioners had objected on record to decisions taken in the Commission's name. The EC has rejected claims of a split and says its decisions were unanimous.
