US delivery firm DoorDash has opened a global technology hub in Hyderabad and plans to grow the workforce to about 3,000 professionals over two years, starting with around 500 employees.

The new centre, opened on Sept 30, will initially handle customer support and general-and-administrative functions for global markets. It is DoorDash's third company-owned service hub worldwide after Tempe, Arizona and Mexico City, and its second tech office in India after Pune.

Workforce strategy chief Jenna Kohnke said Hyderabad's technology ecosystem, talent pool and GCC-friendly environment drove the location choice.

The move adds to a string of global capability centres opened in Hyderabad recently by firms such as Costco, McDonald's, Charles Schwab, Marriott and Southwest Airlines, underlining India's position as the world's largest GCC hub.
