EC orders review of voter-roll software after report of deputies questioning CEC
The Election Commission of India on Saturday ordered a review of its voter-roll software, after The Indian Express reported that two election commissioners had questioned Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at least 14 times in ten months over voter-list updates.
The opposition has alleged that electoral lists were manipulated to benefit the BJP; the Commission has said differences of view are normal and all its actions lawful.
A committee led by a senior official along with an independent technology expert will check the software for compliance, and local officials will visit flagged voters rather than summon them. One opposition outfit has threatened nationwide protests on October 2 unless Kumar quits.
