Shubman Gill struck the fastest double century in one-day international history as India completed the second-highest successful chase in ODIs, beating West Indies by eight wickets in the second game of the three-match series at Guwahati on Wednesday.

Gill, the world's top-ranked ODI batter, finished unbeaten on 223 off 133 deliveries, turning the quickest century of his career into the fastest ODI double hundred. Rohit Sharma set the tone with a 72-ball hundred — passing 12,000 runs in the format — during a blistering 255-run opening stand.

West Indies had looked in complete control after posting their first 400-plus ODI total: 405 for 7, with John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) all scoring centuries. But India hunted down the target with 39 balls to spare and took an unassailable 2-0 series lead ahead of the third ODI in Mullanpur on Saturday.
