Microsoft's fourth India cloud region goes live in Hyderabad
Microsoft's new India South Central cloud region in Hyderabad went live this week, becoming the company's fourth Indian region after Pune, Chennai and Mumbai. Launched with three availability zones, it has been designated a strategic hub for Asia and the Global South.
The Hyderabad region uses effectively zero water for cooling, achieved through air-cooled chillers rather than evaporative cooling — a notable design choice in a water-stressed city. Microsoft says it has 1 gigawatt of renewable energy contracted in India and is building 5 million litres of groundwater-replenishment capacity.
The launch cements Hyderabad's standing as one of India's top data-centre and cloud markets, with the city's IT corridor already home to a dense cluster of global capability centres.
