HMWSSB plans Kokapet Green Water station to recycle treated water for city use

HMWSSB is preparing a Green Water filling station at Kokapet to supply treated water for construction, industry, roads and parks, easing demand on drinking water sources. MD K. Ashok Reddy inspected the proposed site on Thursday and ordered real-time online quality monitoring.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board is preparing a Green Water filling station at Kokapet to supply treated water for non-drinking purposes, a move meant to take pressure off the city's potable water sources. HMWSSB managing director K. Ashok Reddy visited Kokapet on Thursday to inspect the proposed site and review the water-quality testing laboratory, examining testing procedures, standards and the recording of results.
The proposed station would supply treated water for construction, industrial needs, road cleaning, dust control and the upkeep of parks and gardens -- all uses that consume large volumes but do not need drinking-quality water. The move follows the state government's decision this week to stop sanctioning new borewells in Hyderabad for construction and other non-drinking purposes amid falling groundwater levels.
Reddy directed HMWSSB and Telangana State Pollution Control Board officials to coordinate regular quality testing to established standards, with test results uploaded online in real time and integrated with a monitoring system at the board's headquarters. The operating system will include tanker filling limits based on capacity, recorded volumes for every tanker and a mechanism to redirect excess water to ponds, though no commissioning date, capacity or tariff has been announced yet.
