Hyderabad braces for its biggest ever water crisis, board warns

Hyderabad's water board has warned of possible drinking-water shortages as levels in the Singur and Manjeera reservoirs fall, and is considering cutting Manjeera supply by 10 million gallons a day from December.
Residents have been urged to conserve water, with fines of Rs 1,000 to Rs 20,000 proposed for wasting drinking water and repeat offenders facing disconnection of their water connections.
The warning comes amid a renewed political row over the Kannepalli pumping station, with BRS leaders demanding that Godavari water be pumped for city drinking supply instead of being allowed to flow into the sea.
BRS MLA K.P. Vivekananda Goud has alleged that engineers who recommended pumping from Kannepalli were threatened, and warned of protests at the Chief Minister's residence if pumping does not begin. The allegation has not been independently verified.
