IMD red alert: heavy to very heavy rain for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha
The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha as a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moves towards the coast. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected in several regions over the next 24 hours.
In Telangana, districts including Khammam, Mahabubabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem could receive extremely heavy rain, while Hyderabad is likely to see scattered light to moderate showers. The depression is expected to cross the north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts.
Disaster-response teams have been put on alert, and residents in low-lying areas have been advised to monitor district-level advisories rather than relying on old social-media forwards.
