ISRO targets Oct 15–20 launch of NVS-03 to restore NavIC navigation system

ISRO is preparing to launch the NVS-03 navigation satellite between Oct 15 and 20 aboard a GSLV Mk II from Sriharikota, as it works to restore the positioning capabilities of India's NavIC system.
Only three NavIC satellites are currently available for positioning, leaving the constellation — India's independent alternative to GPS — unable to provide standalone navigation services, which need at least four satellites.
NVS-03 will also test corrective measures introduced after the NVS-02 propulsion failure in January 2025. The launch campaign began on Sept 14, with stacking of the GSLV Mk II first stage already complete.
The Oct 15–20 window remains a working target rather than a confirmed date, dependent on vehicle integration, spacecraft checks and readiness reviews. ISRO has also lined up the uncrewed Gaganyaan-1 mission on an LVM-3 for no earlier than Nov 30.
