Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 scored the biggest first Monday ever for a Tamil film with about Rs 49.50 crore India gross, riding the Dussehra holiday.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 has set a new benchmark for Tamil cinema by recording the biggest first Monday for any Tamil film, collecting an estimated Rs 49.50 crore in India gross on October 19. The previous record was held by Vijay's Leo, which managed Rs 39.50 crore on its first Monday in 2023. The festive Dussehra period helped drive turnout on what is normally a working weekday.

The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial had already closed its extended four-day opening weekend with Rs 418.25 crore worldwide, including Rs 234.25 crore in India gross and Rs 184 crore overseas. After five days, the film's total India gross stands at roughly Rs 283.75 crore, with the Tamil version leading, followed by strong business in Telugu, Hindi and Kannada.

Trade watchers note that Tuesday's collections will give a truer picture of the film's underlying weekday strength once the holiday effect fades. The sequel is now chasing the lifetime worldwide totals of Rajinikanth's earlier releases such as Coolie and the original Jailer.
