MoD inks ₹4,106 crore deals for GSAT-7C satellite and Varunastra torpedoes

New Space India Ltd gets the ₹2,563 crore GSAT-7C order for the IAF; Bharat Dynamics gets ₹1,543 crore for Navy torpedoes.
The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts worth approximately ₹4,106 crore for defence technology: the GSAT-7C communication satellite for the Indian Air Force and Varunastra heavy-weight torpedoes for the Indian Navy. The deals were inked in New Delhi on October 15.
The ₹2,563 crore GSAT-7C contract went to New Space India Limited, Bengaluru. The indigenously designed and manufactured satellite will strengthen secure, resilient and seamless communications for IAF assets. The ₹1,543 crore Varunastra contract went to Bharat Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad, for the indigenous ship-launched anti-submarine torpedo developed by the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory.
Both contracts underline the government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India push in critical defence technologies. They follow last week's ₹661.50 crore BrahMos fire-control system contract with BrahMos Aerospace for Navy ships.
