Modi speaks with Trump as India seeks interim trade deal with US

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump agreed to maintain close engagement to advance the countries' strategic partnership, New Delhi said on Wednesday, as India's trade minister holds talks in the United States aimed at securing an interim trade deal.
In a telephone conversation, the leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, energy and critical technologies, and reaffirmed their commitment to the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, the PMO said.
Trade Minister Piyush Goyal is visiting the United States from September 29 to October 5, arriving in Milwaukee on Tuesday for a G20 trade ministers' meeting as both sides chase a “balanced and mutually beneficial” agreement.
