Oil climbs as Trump denies easing sanctions on Iran; Qatar pushes mediation

Oil prices rose on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump denied he was willing to ease sanctions on Iran, with Qatar pushing shuttle diplomacy between the two sides after weeks of war over the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude futures rose $1.14, or 1.11%, to $103.73 a barrel by early trading, while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained 34 cents to $89.72. Brent remains on track for a monthly gain of around 14%, its biggest climb since July.
Trump denied an Axios report citing US officials that he would offer sanctions relief and release frozen Iranian funds in return for “concrete” steps by Tehran on its nuclear programme. Qatar said it is “exchanging messages between the parties” and working towards common ground, as a tanker was struck by an unknown projectile in the strait on Tuesday.
