White House says Russia and Ukraine agree Oleshky ceasefire from October 29 for aid, evacuations

The White House says Russia and Ukraine agreed to halt fighting around Oleshky from October 29 for aid and evacuations, in a deal it credits to Melania Trump.
The White House said on Friday that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a localised ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, in Ukraine's Kherson region, to begin on October 29 and allow humanitarian aid deliveries and civilian evacuations.
The administration said the pause in military operations, due to run from October 27 with aid corridors opening from October 29, was brokered by First Lady Melania Trump and her representative working with both sides. Roughly 2,000 residents remain in Oleshky, where a deepening humanitarian crisis has left families surviving on meagre rations, according to the reports.
Ukraine's ombudsman had said a day earlier that agreement on an Oleshky ceasefire was close, with the Pope, the UN and EU officials also pressing for a humanitarian pause.
