Hundreds of police guard Delhi as opposition marches on EC over voter rolls

Hundreds of police personnel were deployed across the capital on Tuesday as opposition parties marched to the Election Commission demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation over the voter-list revision.

The march is the opposition's sharpest escalation yet in its weeks-long campaign against the EC's electoral-roll revision, which it alleges is being used to delete genuine voters. Security forces ringed key routes in central Delhi and barricades went up around the poll body's office.

Separately, the Supreme Court — led by Chief Justice Surya Kant — clarified that it had approved no change to Form 6 and agreed to hear a related petition on Monday, keeping the legal battle over the revision alive on a second front.

The row has become the single loudest political theme of the week, linking Delhi's protest politics directly to the parallel SIR controversy already raging in Telangana.
