Pakistani airstrikes struck Afghanistan's Kunar and Helmand provinces overnight on Oct 1, destroying three homes in the latest cross-border escalation.

The Taliban government reported nine civilians killed — including women and children — and 11 injured, while the UN mission confirmed at least ten civilian deaths, most of them children.

Pakistan said its jets targeted militant hideouts and claimed 22 militants were killed, as fighting intensifies after three months of relative calm.
