Sensex falls 353 points to 73,246 and Nifty slips below 22,700 as IT stocks drag, even as Bank Nifty and broader indices gain.

The Sensex fell 352.64 points, or 0.48 percent, to close at 73,246.03 on Wednesday, while the Nifty 50 slipped 50.90 points to 22,698.85, extending losses for a second straight session.

IT stocks led the decline, with the Nifty IT index down nearly 2 percent and Infosys falling more than 3 percent, as investors stayed cautious ahead of the US Federal Reserve's policy decision and crude prices climbed.

Broader markets were steadier, with Bank Nifty up 0.54 percent at 54,267.40 and midcap and smallcap indices gaining, even as the headline benchmarks closed lower.
