Dalal Street finally caught a break on Friday as the Sensex surged 879.09 points to close at 72,472.33 and the Nifty 50 gained 288.65 points to settle at 22,520.45, snapping an eight-week losing streak — the longest weekly slide for Indian shares in 25 years.

Information technology led the charge: the Nifty IT index climbed 3% after TCS reported September-quarter net profit up 15% at ₹13,884 crore and revenue up 11.2% at ₹73,188 crore, both ahead of estimates, with annualised AI revenue hitting $3.1 billion. Market breadth was positive, with 2,344 shares advancing against 1,686 declining.

The rebound was capped by familiar worries — elevated crude, persistent foreign-investor selling and tighter monetary policy. For the week the Nifty still managed a 0.4% gain and the Sensex 0.8%; traders now look to Monday's CPI print for the next cue on the rate path.
