Ravi Shastri said India should keep Jasprit Bumrah fresh for the 2027 ODI World Cup by picking him mainly for Tests and sparingly in other formats.

Ravi Shastri has urged India to manage Jasprit Bumrah's workload with the 2027 ODI World Cup in mind, suggesting the pace spearhead be used mainly in Test cricket and sparingly elsewhere. The former India coach said keeping Bumrah fresh is non-negotiable for a home World Cup campaign.

Bumrah was recalled to the Test squad for the New Zealand series but will skip the white-ball leg, continuing the cautious approach after a career interrupted by back and knee injuries. His absence from the T20s underlines the team management's long-term thinking.

India's build-up to the 2027 tournament includes home series against Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Australia. Shastri's advice echoes a wider debate on preserving India's most valuable bowler for the biggest prize.
