The Sirpur archaeological complex in Chhattisgarh has made it to UNESCO's Tentative World Heritage List, a first step toward a full nomination.

Chhattisgarh's Sirpur archaeological site has entered UNESCO's Tentative World Heritage List, putting one more Indian site on the global shortlist for world heritage status.

The Buddhist and Shaivite archaeological complex, known for its temples and monastic remains, now joins India's pipeline of candidate sites awaiting a full nomination.

Inclusion on the tentative list is the mandatory first step before a country can submit a formal World Heritage nomination to UNESCO.
