Tom Kim's Asian Games golf gold earns him military service reprieve

South Korea's Tom Kim shot a final-round 64 to win Asian Games golf gold by three strokes on Saturday — a victory that also earns him exemption from compulsory military service.
The four-time PGA Tour winner, who narrowly missed a medal at the Paris Olympics, held his nerve at Kasugai Country Club after a jet-lagged final day he called ‘the longest day I think I've ever had in my life’.
South Korea grants Asian Games champions exemption from the country's compulsory military service, making the gold worth far more than a medal for the 24-year-old.
Kim also collected a team silver for South Korea, capping a profitable week two years before golf's Olympic return.
