UN seeks $50 million to help nine million people survive winter as Yemen displacement tops 280,000

UNHCR warns aid is unreachable for many as conflict intensifies in Yemen.
The winter funding will provide shelter, heating and cash assistance to families like Svetlana's in Dnipro, Ukraine, whose apartment was heavily damaged by a drone strike last winter. UNHCR said each winter brings new suffering for displaced families already living in damaged homes.
In Yemen, fighting between the Iran-backed Houthis and the Saudi-backed government has escalated since a years-long truce fell apart over the summer, with daily attacks exchanged and displacement sites under threat.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is hosting G20 counterparts, including Russia's Sergei Lavrov, for talks on Friday expected to be strained by the wars in Ukraine and Iran and surging energy prices.
